Competition Rules
The candidates to the competition must be between the ages of 18 and 30 years.
The Competition will consists of four (4) trials:
First Stage: Selection round (with Video or DVD)
Second Stage: Quarter-final round
Third Stage: Semi-Final round
Forth Stage: Final round (without orchestra)
The Selection Trial is mandatory for all contestants, including those who have been awarded prizes in other International Competitions. Winners of the 1st price of this competition in the past are not elegible to compete again.
All stages of the Competition are to be performed by heart.
No more than fifteen contestants will be accepted from the Selection Round by a national jury. Those fifteen (15) selected contestants will come to Panama to continue the Competition.
The accepted fifteen (15) contestants of the Selection Round will be provided with accommodations, meals and internal transportation during the duration of the Competition, starting on October 19th.
The selected contestants must arrive in Panama on Sunday October19th, 2008.
Each contestant will have access to a piano to practice up to four (4) hours a day.
The order of presentation of the contestants will be determined at random by drawing of lots, which will take place on Monday October 20th. This order of performance will be maintained throughout the Competition.
The order of performance of the repertoire of each contestant will be the one determined and specified by the contestant in the inscription form.
All rounds will be open to the public.
The contestants will NOT be allowed to share their accommodations with family members and/or friends for the duration of the Competition.
Any contact between members of the Jury and the contestants is forbidden during the entire Competition.
From the Quarter-final Round on, the jury will be made up consist of seven (7) international personalities and renown artists of the musical scene.
All contestants admitted into the Semi-Final Round will receive a Certificate of Participation signed by the President of the Competition.
There will not be ex aequo prizes. In case of a tie, the President of the Competition will issue the deciding vote.
The decisions of the jury are final and irrevocable.
All Rounds of the Competition will be recorded by the Competition´s organizers for their exclusive use. The candidates will be able to obtain a copy of such at a nominal price, if they so desire.
There will not be a round with Orchestra.
All candidates must send before June 16, 2008 a NTSC video on VHS tape or DVD with the recordings of the selected pieces within the following conditions: The camera should be placed towards the right profile of the candidate at a distance of five (5) meters on a fixed position that always shows clearly the profile, hands and feet of the candidate.
