Rules of the IV Piano Competition
The
IV INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION, PANAMA, will take place in Panama City,
capital of the Republic of Panama in October 19th – 26th, 2010.
The
competition is open to candidates of all nationalities.
The
candidates to the competition must be between the ages of 18 and 30.
The Competition will consist of four (4) trials:
First Stage Selection round (with DVD for the NTSC system)
Second Stage Quarter-final round
Third Stage Semi-final round
Fourth Stage Final round
The
Selection round, via DVD is mandatory for all candidates, including those who
have obtained prizes in other International competitions. The camera for the
DVD should be placed toward the right profile of the candidate on a fixed
position that always shows clearly the profile, hands and feet of the candidate
All stages of the competition are to be performed by heart.
The
accepted contestants of the Selection Round will be provided with
accommodations, meals and local transportation during the duration of the
Competition, starting October 17th.
The
selected contestants must be in Panama on Sunday October 17th should plan to leave the Country by Wednesday 27th.
Each
contestant will have access to a piano to practice up to four (4) hours a day.
The
order of presentation of the contestants will be determined at random by
drawing of lots, which will take place on Monday October 18th. This
order of performance will be maintained throughout the Competition.
All
rounds will be open to the public.
The
order of performance of the repertoire of each contestant will be the one
determined and specified by the contestant in the inscription form. Any change
of this order must be informed in advance to the President of the jury.
The
contestants will not be allowed to share their accommodations with family
members and/or friends for the duration of the Competition.
Any
contact between members of the jury and the contestants is forbidden during the
entire Competition.
From
the Quarter final Round on, the jury will consist of seven (7) international
personalities and known artists of the musical scene.
There
will not be ex
aequo prizes. In case of a tie, the President of the Jury will issue the
deciding vote.
The
decisions of the jury are final and irrevocable.
All
Rounds will be recorded by the Competition for the exclusive use of the Fundación.
Important Note:
Even
though there will not be a round with orchestra, the candidate who wins the
First Prize of the Competition will be bound to play, the last night of the
event with the National Symphony Orchestra one of the followings concertos:
Mozart in d minor, K. 466, or C major K. 467; Beethoven N° 1 or N° 5; Chopin f
minor; Liszt, Concerto n° 1 in E flat, Grieg, Concerto in a minor; or Ravel,
Concerto in G.
